A Brief Overview Of House Siding Types

The type of siding that you use for your home can be a big decision. House siding types affect both the look and the maintenance requirements of your home. Different types of siding each have their own advantages and disadvantages. Sometimes the decision comes down to price, as some of the options can be quite expensive. These days you can get most types in the house siding colors of your choice, as long as you spend a little time looking around at the options from the various manufacturers.

The house siding materials that were most common in the past, such as wood house siding and brick house siding, now have a lot of competition from other house siding types. Vinyl house siding and aluminum house siding are two of the more popular materials these days since they require so much less maintenance and provide so many different style options at a low cost. They come in either horizontal or vertical siding options.

Metal house siding, such as steel siding, also has its pros and cons. It will definitely last a long time and not require much maintenance, but some of them can be heavy and a bit difficult to install. Older varieties might also rust or need to be repainted over time, though most newer versions are specially treated to help prevent this.

Those who want a more rustic look can even get log house siding, either made from wood or vinyl. The vinyl versions are much lighter and less expensive. They are usually specially made to be durable and give you extra insulation as well. A number of different companies offer this type of siding, but color options are limited. Shingle house siding is also available both in traditional wood and in vinyl options. Asbestos house siding, fiber cement house siding, concrete house siding, stucco, and Masonite house siding are also used by some people. These are not quite as popular as some of the other siding options, but they do have a number of advantages. They are fireproof, or treated to be fireproof, and they tend to last a long time. Installation can be more difficult since in some cases there are health risks if it is not done properly.

My friend and I are thinking about replacing her vinyl siding as they are old and falling apart, the wood is rotting and the paint is eroding from itself. I'm looking for some new replacement... this article helped a bit on the types I might be looking for.
